Upgrade your ordinary Taco Tuesdays by serving this delicious and flavorful alternative to the standard taco using flat iron strips, a citrusy chili lime seasoning, avocado, cilantro and queso fresco.


  • 1 pound Double Red 1904® Flat Iron Strips
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • juice of 2 limes
  • 2 teaspoons chili lime seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon red onion; diced
  • 1 avocado; sliced
  • 1 tablespoon queso fresco cheese
  • corn or flour tortillas; street taco size
  • fresh cilantro; chopped


  1. Place flat iron strips in a small bowl and cover with fresh lime juice and let marinate for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  2. Remove flat iron strips from marinade, sprinkle with chili lime seasoning, and transfer to a heated cast iron skillet or flat top grill coated with olive oil.
  3. Cook to medium temperature and remove from heat and let rest.
  4. While the meat is resting, grill tortillas for 5 minutes on each side and set aside.
  5. Place a few of the flat iron strips on the tortilla, top with red onion, avocado cilantro and queso fresco.
  6. Squeeze with fresh lime juice if desired.
  7. Serve open-faced or folded in half.
